Drop-down window
The drop-down window is a Quake-style terminal. A global shortcut shows Termorq from the top of the screen, wherever you are, and the same shortcut hides it.
Turn it on
Open Settings → Drop-down window and switch it On. It is off by default.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Shortcut | Cmd+Shift+Space on macOS, Ctrl+Shift+Space on Windows and Linux | The global key. Click the button, then press the new combination. Esc keeps the old one |
A shortcut needs Ctrl, Alt or Cmd. A bare key or Shift alone is refused, because it would take ordinary typing away from every app. If another app already owns the combination, Settings shows the error and nothing is registered.
Use it
Press the shortcut in any app:
- Termorq slides down from the top of the monitor the pointer is on and takes focus. The first time it is full width and 40% of the screen’s height.
- Press it again while Termorq is focused. The window slides back up off the screen and hides.
- Press it while Termorq is visible but behind another app. Termorq comes to the front instead of hiding.
Each slide takes about 180 ms and eases out at the end. Pressing the shortcut again during a slide turns it round from where it is, so quick presses never leave the window stuck part way off the screen.
Size
There is no height setting. Resize the drop-down while it is open and Termorq remembers that size, as a share of the screen, for the next time. On a different or smaller screen it opens at the same share and never larger than the screen’s usable area.
Tabs, running commands and interactive sessions keep running while the window is hidden.
Tray and Dock
The shortcut does not change the tray. On macOS a click on the menu-bar icon still opens its menu. On Windows a left click still does nothing and a right click opens the menu.
