Open Notes from the app rail or press Ctrl+Shift+N. On macOS, press Cmd+Shift+N. Notes fills the full window width. Choose Terminal in the Notes header to return to the terminal. Pressing Esc does not close Notes; Esc can still dismiss a Notes dialog or menu.

Notes keeps your Markdown in Note workspaces. A workspace is a named folder with a provider:

ProviderFolderFree limit
LocalAny folder on this computer2
ObsidianAn Obsidian vault (a folder with an .obsidian folder)1
OneDriveA folder the OneDrive desktop app syncs, such as ~/Library/CloudStorage/OneDrive-Contoso/Notes or %UserProfile%\OneDrive\Notes1
Google DriveA folder Google Drive for desktop syncs, such as ~/Library/CloudStorage/GoogleDrive-you@example.com/My Drive/Notes or G:\My Drive\Notes1

Each workspace is a tab across the top of Notes. The tab shows the provider’s logo and the workspace name; hover it to see the provider and the full folder path. The status line under an open note shows the same logo. Each workspace remembers its own open folder, note, filters, and view. The left sidebar stacks folders above the file list; drag its divider to resize it, or focus the divider and press the arrow keys. The sidebar width is remembered when you leave Notes.

Add and manage workspaces

Open Settings → Note workspaces, or select ⚙ at the end of the Notes tabs.

  1. Choose Add workspace….
  2. Type a Name, for example Work. Names are unique, ignoring case.
  3. Pick a Provider: Local, Obsidian, OneDrive, or Google Drive.
  4. Choose Choose folder…. For OneDrive and Google Drive, the dialog opens at the sync folder Termorq found, and each detected account folder (for example OneDrive-Personal and OneDrive-Contoso) is a one-click button.
  5. Check the summary: how many Markdown notes the folder holds, or Empty folder — start fresh. Termorq warns when the folder is already a workspace, overlaps another workspace, or is not an Obsidian vault for the Obsidian provider.
  6. Choose Add workspace.

Each row in Settings shows the provider logo, the name, the shortened path, and a status: OK, Managed by OneDrive or Managed by Google Drive for sync folders, or Folder missing. Use ↑ and ↓ to set the tab order, Set default to choose the tab Notes opens first, Edit (or Re-locate for a missing folder) to rename it or change its provider or folder, and Remove to take it out of Notes. Removing a workspace never deletes or moves its files.

OneDrive and Google Drive workspaces are the folders their desktop apps already sync. Termorq reads and writes Markdown files there and the vendor’s app handles sync, offline copies, and conflicts. Termorq does not sign in to Microsoft or Google. On Linux there is no official OneDrive or Google Drive desktop app, so those providers are unavailable; add a folder synced by another tool as Local.

When a Local folder sits inside a OneDrive or Google Drive folder, Settings offers Use the OneDrive provider (or Google Drive). An Obsidian vault inside a synced folder stays an Obsidian workspace and shows an Also under OneDrive sync badge.

Found in Obsidian lists vaults from Obsidian’s own vault list that are not a workspace yet. Choose Add beside one to start the Add sheet with it. That list is best-effort: Obsidian’s vault list is an internal file format, so it can change. Termorq reads it without editing it or the vault’s .obsidian settings.

Free limits and Pro

Free has up to two Local workspaces and one each of Obsidian, OneDrive, and Google Drive. Settings shows the count for each provider, for example Local 1/2 · Obsidian 0/1 · OneDrive 0/1 · Google Drive 0/1. A provider at its limit is disabled in the Add sheet with Free limit reached (1/1) — Upgrade to Pro; when every provider is full, the button reads Add workspace — Upgrade to Pro. Pro removes the limits. See Free and Pro editions.

Upgrading from one notes folder

Earlier versions had one Local notes folder in Termorq’s application data plus checkboxes for Obsidian vaults. The first time this version opens Notes, it turns that folder into a Local workspace called Notes and each enabled vault into an Obsidian workspace. The Notes workspace becomes the default unless a vault was the last one you used. Folder tags, folder order, open notes, and Trash carry over. No files move, and the old settings are kept as notes/settings.pre-workspaces.json in the application-data folder. If you had more vaults enabled than the Free limit, they all stay usable; only adding another Obsidian workspace needs Pro. The migration runs once.

Workspace notes are the Markdown files in that folder. Termorq writes note tags to the note’s YAML tags frontmatter and leaves other frontmatter fields in place. Folder tags, folder order, the workspace list, and view preferences stay in Termorq’s application data. Notes ignores dot-folders such as .obsidian and .trash.

Organize and find notes

Choose All folders to return to the workspace root, then choose New folder to create a top-level folder. New folder and New note create items inside the selected folder. Use the folder tree to expand nested folders. In a Local, OneDrive, or Google Drive workspace, drag a folder by its grip. The top and bottom zones show an insertion line for placing it before or after a sibling; the center zone shows Move into and nests it inside that folder. Dropping onto All folders moves it to the root. Obsidian vault folders stay in place and cannot be dragged or reordered. Drag a note by the grip beside its name in the folder tree or note list to move it into a folder; the center of a folder is the drop target. Use the editor’s Move to… control to move a note to another workspace. Use the note’s actions to rename it or put it in Termorq’s recoverable Trash.

Select the # action beside a note or folder to edit its tags. Type a tag and press Enter to add it, or select a suggested tag to toggle it. Tags keep their consistent, theme-aware colours beside notes and folders. On a note, Save tags updates the Markdown frontmatter. Folder tags are kept in Termorq’s app data. Folder tags are inherited when searching notes below that folder.

Switch between List and Files to change how notes are shown. The file list shows only notes directly inside the selected folder; choose a nested folder to see its notes. Search checks note title, filename, path, and tags within that folder. The tag filter narrows results to a tag or partial tag. Each workspace remembers its selected folder and note, list or files view, raw or preview mode, search, and tag filter when you leave Notes and return.

Edit and preview Markdown

Choose Raw to edit Markdown or Preview to render it. YAML frontmatter at the start of a note stays in Raw and on disk, but is omitted from Preview. Edits save automatically. The editor shows when a save is in progress or when the note is saved. GitHub Flavored Markdown tables render with bold headers, light body text, and alternating row colours; task lists and fenced code blocks render too. Raw HTML is not rendered.

GitHub alert blockquotes render as titled, colour-coded callouts with a matching icon: NOTE, TIP, IMPORTANT, WARNING, and CAUTION. INFO is accepted as an alias for NOTE.

Obsidian [[wikilinks]] open matching notes in the current workspace. A note’s backlinks list the other notes that link to it. If Obsidian or another editor changes the open note, Notes offers to reload the file or save your current edits as a copy.

Add screenshots and images

Open a note, then select the capture icon to choose a screen or window in the system picker. Termorq saves the captured image under the note’s attachments folder and inserts a relative Markdown image link. Cancel the picker to return without adding an image. The adjacent clipboard button pastes an image, and an image copied from a screenshot tool can also be pasted with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V while editing.

PNG, JPEG, GIF, and WebP images up to 5 MB are accepted. The image stays with the note when you move the note between workspaces.
